Google Goofed
-Hey it’s Friday … and we finally made it to the end of another work week.
-Good morning guys and welcome to our blog. If your a regular reader, than it is good to have you back this morning and if your a first time reader – we welcome you.
We are Steve (35) and Warren (62) a gay male couple from the beautifull State of Minnesota – the land of 10,000 lakes.
-Out in our back yard this morning we had cloudy skies and 39 degrees. Today’s northland weather forecast for the great Duluth and North Shore area is: Partly sunny. Highs 48 to 53. Northwest winds 5 to 10 mph becoming southwest in the late morning and afternoon.
Color weather radar at this hour shows rain across the southern and southwestern portions of Minnesota. Hopefully it will stay down there and not move this way.
-In good news … the DOW yesterday bounced back for a reasonably good recovering. The finally tally at the end of the market day, showed the DOW up by 401.35. I know one guy, who emailed me yesterday talked about how he lost of $5,000 in his retirement account.
Hopefully this things is going to level out here pretty soon and if nothing else stay flat or creep up slowly … so that there can be come regaining of lost ground for many investors.
-Steve was not feeling good about his lunch time yesterday. He went and had lunch at a chinese buffet, which is totally “not like Steve” to do.
On a few occasions when I’ve had lunch with him … he and I have gone to this place – but I think he’s just suffering from some personal down time. His back many years ago bothered him considerably … then just over time, it seemed as though the back discomfort got better and the pain was tolerable.
Last week, when Steve had his physical exam and talked to his doctor – the doctor suggested that he see this physical therapist for further help and assistance. So Steve, being willing to seek improvement did that. The therapist really never did anything to Steve’s back – but in fact just recommended some stretching and bending types of exercises to “improve” Steve’s back.
Sad to say, but after about one week of those exercises, Steve’s back became worse – and he’s been suffering mild to strong back discomfort for the past few days.
As I mentioned yesterday, I suggested to him that he “quit” those exercises, get some ice on that back to prevent any further swelling and discomfort and hopefully the pain would subside and eventually go away.
Steve hurt his back somehow, long before I met him – when he played softball. The he reinjured his back again a few years ago – sliding of all things into a base on his stomach.
I know you guys will join me in extending our best wishes to Steve with the hopes that this problem will start to subside and go away shortly.
-Officials at a Los Angeles hospital say “Desperate Housewives” actor Gale Harold is improving after suffering serious injuries in a motorcycle accident.
Officials at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center said Thursday evening that Harold is under observation in the intensive care unit.
The actor had swelling on the brain and a fractured shoulder but is expected to recover. Officials say he will be transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center when a bed becomes available.
Harold played a lead role in Queer As Folk – just a great Showtime series that Steve and I have been watching over time.
-This morning as soon as I finish the blog here … it’s off to the shower, as I have to drive one of the cars into the Ford dealership in Duluth for a 5,000 mile oil change and to have the tires looked at.
Assuming everything goes well at the Ford garage, I’ll meet Steve later on in the morning for a light lunch at his work place and then head on back home for the remainder of he afternoon.
-Each day this month we’ve been sharing with you events surround GLBT history month. October is GLBT history month and here are the events that shaped this 17th day of the month:
October 17
October 17,1920 – Actor Montgomery Clift is born in Omaha Nebraska. Clift brought in intensity to the screen that was studied by and copied by others, most notably Marlon Brando. His sexuality was carefully guarded from fans but few in Hollywood did not know. Clift burned himself out and was dead at the age of 46.
October 17-18, 1975 – Five Montreal gay bars, The Lime Light; Le Mystique; P.J.’s; Le Rocambole; and Au Taureau d’Or. are raided by police.
October 17, 1977 – An appeal of an obscenity conviction against Vancouver’s Gay Tide is heard before the Supreme Court of Canada. It is the first time a gay civil rights case heard by Supreme Court.
October 17, 1980 -The first Black Lesbian Conference began in San Francisco with nearly 200 women in attendance.
October 17-18, 1981 – In Fredericton, the third regional conference of the Atlantic Lesbian and Gay Association brings together the largest assembly of gays in New Brunswick.
October 17, 1990 – US Representative Henry Hyde (R-IL) insulted openly gay congressman Barney Frank during a budget debate, saying Frank does not know what is going on in Congress because he is too
busy performing quickie sex acts.October 17, 1995 – The Advocate published an interview with Barney Frank, Gerry Studds, and Steve Gunderson, the three openly gay members of Congress.
October 17, 1997 – Donald Goor was installed as senior rabbi of Temple Judea of Tarzana in Los Angeles. The synagogue became the largest Jewish congregation to have an openly gay rabbi.
October 17, 1997 – The International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics Championship opened in San Diego California.

-Things we’ve read…
- A toaster uses almost half as much energy as a full-sized oven.
- The ashes of the average cremated person weigh nine pounds.
- Crayola is a French word that means ‘Oily chalk.’
- One percent of Greenland’s population lives in a single apartment building!
- In one day an average person will take about 18,000 steps.
-Yesterday afternoon I got a call from my cousin Joann – she’s been in the hospital locally for about one week with a gall bladder incident. She was being discharged from the hospital and needed a ride home from her cousin (me) so I was available to pick her up.
I got to the hospital about 2:45 p.m., picked up all of her things and gave her a ride home.
Being in the hospital is good, when your sick – but the stay can get old and boring – as she was quickly finding out.
-One last note … I’m a guy who uses “Google” as my portal or home page – and yesterday afternoon sometime – Google made a slight change in the page … adding a tab or column on the very extreme left hand side of the screen.
In short – “I hate it” and I wish there was a way for me to remove it – unfortunately Google did not give that opportunity to their users.
In short … if I can remove it, I’ll probably change my portal or home page to “Yahoo” or someone else. The new addition seems useless to me.
As far as I am concerned – Google goofed! I want my old iGoogle page back!
I rarely switch tabs, so having them take up an entire column on the left is a waste. Also, my “Home” tab used to fit on one screen. If I wanted to see a preview of an article, I could mouse over it. Now, I get previews of everything and it takes up three screens.
-On that note guys …I’m going to head on out of here just a bit earlier than normal … Steve will be up in about fifteen minutes – getting his body all washed up and his face shaved…such a cutie…and off to his office and I’ll be headed toward the Ford garage.
We will see you all tomorrow … remember to be kind. Have a great Friday.
-Until next time…
