It Was Couch Potato Day

-It was a couch potato day around here yesterday. Good morning everyone, and welcome to our blog.

We are Steve and Warren, a gay male couple from Minnesota. We’d like to welcome you to our daily blog.

-Out in the back yard this morning it is cloudy and 33 degrees. We had rain most of yesterday, and windy conditions – but we never got any snow in the area where we live.

-Our northland weather forecast for today is: Mostly cloudy. A few snow showers or flurries in the morning…then scattered flurries in the afternoon. Highs 37 to 42. Northwest winds 10 to 20 mph.

Color weather radar this morning shows a few small areas of snow out from the Duluth area … but otherwise most of the State of Minnesota has nothing on radar at this hour.

-We are just a few days away from the end of October, and it’s been a busy month – as the year 2008 flys by ever so quickly.

Today, as we have for each day we are sharing with you great moments in GLBT history. October is noted as being GLBT history month and this is what happened on this date:

October 27

October 27, 1903 – In “Die Zeit”, Sigmund Freud was quoted as saying homosexuals are not sick and should not be treated as sick.

October 27, 1951 – The French postal service issued stamps with gay lovers Paul Verlaine and Arthur Rimbaud.

October 27, 1970 – Forty members of the Gay Activist Alliance invaded the offices of Harper magazine to protest an article which presented homosexuality as a mental illness. GAA president Arthur Evans verbally attacked editor Midge Decter for publishing an article which would add to the suffering of homosexuals. The protest led to a three part television news series on gay liberation.

October 27, 1977 – A meeting between Quebec Human Rights Commission and representatives of gay group ADGQ results in public recommendation that government amend Human Rights Charter to include sexual orientation.

October 27, 1990 – US Congress repealed a law barring homosexuals from being admitted to the United States on grounds of mental illness.

October 27, 1992 – The Federal Court of Canada ordered the military to lift the ban on gay and lesbian service personnel. The Defence Department declined to appeal the decision.

October 27, 1993 – Allen Schindler, a gay American sailor, was beaten to death by his shipmates.

October 27, 1997 – BET-TV withdrew an invitation to Keith Boykin to appear on a show with Angie and Debbie Winans. The Winans objected to his presence on the show, which featured their anti-gay song “It’s Not Natural.”

October 27, 1999 – The Ontario provincial government changed 67 statutes to give same-sex couples equal treatment to heterosexual couples.

October 27, 1999 – Democratic presidential nomination candidates Al Gore and Bill Bradley promised that if elected they would do everything in their power to ensure equal rights for gay and lesbian Americans.

-After the football games were over yesterday … Steve and I drove to the grocery store, where I picked up all the ingredients for a “meatloaf”. When we got home, I decided to put all the ingredients together and make a nice big two pound meatloaf with veggies for our supper.

The ingredients were all mixed together and placed in a baking dish and set to cook for one hour. By about 5:30 p.m. or so, with the veggies being cooked – we were ready to have our supper.

I have to say … it really tasted pretty darn good. Steve and I don’t have meatloaf to often … but it was good and enjoyable.

So how did I make the meatloaf?  Well here is recipe…my Souperior Meat Loaf

  • 1 envelope of Lipton onion soup mix (dry)
  • 2 lbs. ground beef (extra lean)
  • 3/4 cup of Stove top (turkey) dressing dry bread crumb mix (try to not include the seasoning, shake down the bag so the seasoning settles to the bottom)
  • 2 eggs
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 to 1/2 cup of ketchup

Preheat the over to 350 degrees.  In a large zip lock bag, mix all of the ingredients, combining and mixing well.  In a 9 x 13 baking or roasting pan, shape the meat mixture into a loaf, then garnish with a bit of ketchup across the top for taste and looks and bake for 1 hour or until cooked.  Let stand for about 10 to 12 minutes before serving.

We both had second helpings – which was a no no – but the taste far outweighed the “no no” factor! :-)

-Things we’ve read…

* A snail can sleep for three years.
* Indoor pollution is 10 times more toxic than outdoor pollution.
* Due to gravitational effects, you weigh slightly less when the moon is directly overhead.
* Until 1990, the deadly poison mercury was used in about 30% of latex paints!
* Your body is creating and killing 15 million red blood cells per second.

-Barack Obama drew a crowd of over 100,000 at a rally in Denver on Sunday. The setting, on a sparkling day in this battleground state, said perhaps more than Obama did in his actual speech.

His campaign is capitalizing on the scope of such rallies to get people to cast votes early, permitted in Colorado and more than two dozen other states.

Steve and I can finally say that we are ready for the end of the election season…this has been a long presidential campaign.

-Steve goes back to work this morning after a nice weekend off and time together. Steve’s back seems to be feeling somewhat better … he did mention it one or two times yesterday … but seems to be feeling a bit better. I can usually determine how his back feels by the lack of complaint about the pain … which is good for him.

-Steve is still in bed … getting his beauty sleep, and he will be getting his buns moving here in about 25 minutes when he hits the shower.

Steve and I hope that your Monday is a good day, not filled with to many meetings, or telephone calls or emails/letters.

Enjoy your day – we will enjoy ours and we will see you back here again tomorrow.

-Until next time…
