Bare In The North Woods
-Hello everyone and good morning. It is Wednesday.
-Out in our backyard this morning it is cloudy and 28 degrees – a bit warmer than it was yesterday morning at this time.
Color weather radar does not show any rain or snow across Minnesota – so hopefully it will be a half decent day in the north land.
-The forecast for our part of the world for today is:
Breezy. Mostly cloudy. A chance of snow showers and patchy light freezing drizzle in the morning…then a chance of snow showers in the afternoon. Highs 28 to 33. West winds 10 to 15 mph becoming northwest 15 to 25 mph in the late morning and afternoon. Chance of precipitation 30 percent.
-What if Kobe Bryant or LeBron James shocked the world and said they were gay? Would they be vilified or would they be heroes?
Dallas Maverick’s billionaire owner Mark Cuban thinks it’s the latter.
When asked in a recent interview about openly gay former basketball star John Amaechi, Cuban went on record in an outstanding show of support for gay athletes.
Although, not my favorite person – at least Cuban is on the right side of the street.
-Our Boston Celtics won last night beating New York 110 to 101 … inspite of the fact that Kevin Garnett was not playing.
Garnett was suspended for throwing a punch at Milwaukee’s Andrew Bogut on Saturday and forced to sit out one game.
In all honesty – knowing the professional manner in which Garnett plays – I highly doubt he “threw a punch” in the Milwaukee game! Probably another classic example of what I would call from time to time “horse shit officiating”.
You can take that one to the barn with you.
-Our dog (Buddy) is doing much better. He is eating some smaller amounts of food and is definitely drinking water which is good to see.
He was up and around yesterday … going outside on several occasions to do his business.
-Steve had a fairly routine day at work yesterday … he called me during his lunch time and we chatted for just a few minutes.
He was busy working with payroll matters at his company.
When Steve got home, he spent some time working on his blog – Steve On Sinema.
If you haven’t read his latest post entitled “My First Time – Crypticon 2008” by all means do. It’s a great article and well laid out.
Great job pal.
-James Dobson’s anti-gay group, Focus on the Family has announced that it will cut an additional 202 jobs which is about 20 percent of its workforce.
The cutbacks come just weeks after the group poured more than half a million dollars into the successful effort to pass Proposition 8, a gay-marriage ban in California.
It’s amazing how even those who hate gay people – such as Dobson’s group – are affected by the financial woes of our nation.
Some how I don’t feel that God has sanctioned their ideas and ways of hatred, in the same fashion that they seem to think He has.
-Over 100 retired generals and admirals called for a repeal of the U.S. military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy so that gays would be allowed to openly serve serve in the military, according to a statement obtained by The Associated Press. The call from the military veterans confronts the incoming administration of President-elect Barack Obama with a political and cultural issue that proved to be troublesome for former President Bill Clinton.
About time men.
-Things we’ve read…
- If you’re over 100 years old, there’s an 80% chance you’re a woman.
- Jimmy Hoffa’s middle name is, appropriately, Riddle.
- Butterflies taste with their feet.
- The man who created the Thighmaster was once a Bhuddist Monk.
- 85% of us will eat Spam this year. (Oh say I’m wrong about that one…please!)
-Just a reminder, there are a lot of great blogs listed in our “blogroll” that we would suggest that you read – time permitting. But here are a few of my favorite’s:
No, no I don’t get paid to endorse anyone’s writings or blogs … I just happen to think that these are a few great reads by a few great guys.
-Wednesday – and it’s 5:39 a.m., time for this dude to get movin. Steve’s going to be up in about 20 minutes and I’ve got to get into the kitchen and find something for my breakfast. ![]()
Steve and I hope that each of you – has a great day. Don’t forget guys to be kind and remember to be good!
-Until next time…
