-Good morning – it is Monday of Thanksgiving week …
-Taking a look out in the back yard this morning we have clear conditions with 21 degrees. Color weather radar at this hour does show a small patch of light snow up toward the Hibbing, Minnesota area … but the rest of the state is looking good at this hour.
But according to the weather man, that is going to change slightly … our forecast for today is:
Light snow likely. Little snow accumulation. Highs 25 to 30. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Looking ahead for the rest of the week – we are going to have sunny conditions with temperatures in the mid 30s all week long.
-The big day is just a few days away – and of course I’m talking about Thanksgiving 2008. Do you have your turkey purchased and all the trimmings?

Well I do … and this year will be slightly different for me, as I’ll be alone. I’ve already mentioned that Steve will be leaving to go home to his family for the holiday – and I’ll be staying behind with “Buddy” our dog – to have my own thanksgiving feast.
This week being Thanksgiving week, I thought each day I’d list a few things to be thankful for…during this Thanksgiving Season 2008:
- Clothes that fit well
- Comfortable shoes
- Equality
- Computers that work
- Ceiling fans
- Cream Brule (Steve’s favorite)
- Dark Chocolate
- Dishwashers
- Diversity (of us as gay men)
- Fresh pineapple slices
There are just so darn many things that each of us can be thankful for … why not take a moment and make a small list of the things that you are thankful on this Thanksgiving week.
You’ll be surprised at how much you have to be thankful for.
-As reported in the New Yorkers Magazine, “When asked about his perspective on social issues – gay marriage, abortion – Prince tapped his Bible and said, “God came to earth and saw people sticking it wherever and doing it with whatever, and he just cleared it all out.”
Now its being reported that Price is “very angry” about being misquoted in the recent interview.
Sources claim, “What His Purpleness actually did was gesture to the Bible and said he follows what it teaches, referring mainly to the parts about loving everyone and refraining from judgment. We’re very angry he was misquoted.”
Whether or not Prince supports gay marriage, remains unclear, perhaps he just didn’t want to alienate all of his GLBT fans~!
-My thought for the day…
The more lovingly I look at life, the more value I will find to live. The more fully I appreciate what is now, the more positively I can influence what will be.
If I look deeply enough, I can find goodness in any situation. The perspective from which I view the world determines what I will see.
So it is on this Thanksgiving week 2008 – with a positive, thankful, life-affirming perspective I’ll see opportunities for growth, achievement, fulfillment and joy – even at my older age of 62. With the best of expectations I’ll enjoy the best of all possible results.
On the surface, today may look just like all the days before me in this year. I just need to choose to look beneath the surface, though, and I’ll find countless possibilities in this moment.
If I xxpect to find goodness, beauty, value and opportunity, then I will. So I’ve got to look closely with a loving heart, and life’s true treasures will come clearly into focus for me – as they can for you.
The full richness of life is here in this moment. Look closely and you will see just as even I’m beginning to see it on this Monday morning.
That’s my thought for this day.
-Steve’s been bugging me the past few days, that I’ve not been to “sexual” of late – and I guess he’s right. No, I love Steve will all of my heart, soul and being – but I guess I’ve been so busy with the cares of my life, the dog, my health care – and doing things around the house that I’ve just been like a blue jay flying around doing everything else and not taking care of my sexual responsibility toward Steve or toward myself.

So many times, I get caught up doing this or that – or running to the basement in the evenings doing laundry or drying clothes – that I detract myself from Steve totally by accident doing things I could do some other time during the day – and I’ve just been to busy doing nothing instead of being sexually responsible to my partner in these past few days and weeks.
Well that wasn’t the case last night – the bed got used and it was truly enjoyable for both of us.
But the point here is simply this … we’ve got to make sure all of us makes time for our partners. It’s so easy, and I don’t care who in the heck you are – it’s so easy to get caught up in the cares and chores of this world that we forget about our sexual responsibilities to our partners – the guys we love with all of our hearts and beings.
So … although I’ll be alone on this Thanksgiving 2008 – I love you pal, and I’m sorry for getting caught up in the chores of the day.
-As I was thankful for “equality” up above in my list …
A memo that was leaked back in June which outlined the decision by Mormon Church to use resources and staff to support California’s Proposition 8, may end up costing the cult much more than the $20 million it spent on the ballot initiative.
The last time the Mormon Church attempted to publicly influence politics in America was when Jimmy Carter was President.
President Carter told the church unless they ceased actively supporting segregation, they would have to start paying taxes like any other association who incorporate white pride and politics into their religious outreach. Lo and behold the Prophet who leads the latter day saints, got a revelation and within weeks the church lifted internal restrictions on black members and stopped the overt flow of money to the more racist third world dictators.
This is a “church” who used to say people of color were “evil” and “their color was a punishment from God”.
So, as history tends to repeat itself, here again we have a “church” using the ultimate authority to dictate discrimination against a minority group and excusing their hate and bigotry with the Bible and tax exempt status.
Let me just encourage you to write your congressman today…and tell them…maybe they need to have the IRS consider TAXING the LDS!
-Well believe it or not … our government is making a bold run to save Citigroup.
Rushing to rescue Citigroup, the government has agreed to shoulder hundreds of billions of possible losses at the stricken bank and to plow a fresh $20 billion into the company.
Citigroup was especially hard hit by the meltdown in risky, subprime mortgages made to people with tarnished credit or low incomes. Foreclosures on those mortgages spiked, leaving Citi and other financial companies wracking up huge losses on the soured investments. The company has failed to turn a profit during the past four quarters and has announced plans to slash about 53,000 thousand jobs.
Now, I’m beginning to wonder – when Steve and I will be getting our “bail out checks” after all – we’ve been having a few tight dollars losses at our house to in the past few days.
-I am just reading the Duluth News Tribune and the shaky economy means more anticipated mouths to feed at free Thanksgiving dinners this year. The Union Gospel Mission and organizers of the mega-Twin Ports Thanksgiving Buffet up here in Duluth have planned for 15 percent and 20 percent more diners than last year, respectively.
Last year, 3,000 people were served there. The same number of home deliveries is expected this year as last, with about 1,000. The dinner also is hosted also in the neighboring communities of Cloquet and Two Harbors, and more people are expected in both of those locations: 400 in Cloquet, up from 250; and 125 in Two Harbors, up from 50.
Now that’s what Thanksgiving is all about … helping others. Cool idea!
-Remember yesterday I was telling you about Michael Jackson owing a huge amount of money to some rich sheikh … well, low and behold lawyers for Michael Jackson say they have reached a settlement with a Bahraini sheik who says the singer owes him $7 million after breaching a signed contract, the pop star’s spokeswoman said Sunday.
I wonder how he got himself out of this mess…?
-Things we’ve read…
- Every U.S. president with a beard has been a Republican.
- According to scientific studies, a rat’s performance in a maze can be improved by playing music written by Mozart.
- The dot over the letter ‘i’ is called a tittle.
- Identity crisis? About 10% of Jewish households have Christmas Trees.
- If you shake a can of mixed nuts, the larger ones will rise to the top.
-Our favorite Boston Celtics … with Rajon Rondo running at full speed, the Boston Celtics’ offense has found a new gear.
Ray Allen scored 21 points and Boston led from the start in winning its fifth straight game, 118-103 over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday.
I have to tell you … watching the Celtics over the Timberwolves is like watching a dream come true for Steve and I. They (Boston) make watching basketball – enjoyable.
-Well my partner Steve is up and out of bed … he just walked into the bathroom to get ready for another day of work. I have to feel the dog some food and give him a pill (tricky part is hiding the pill so he doesn’t see it or taste it) and also give him his first of two 5 unit insulin shots for the day.
Never thought I’d be a “nurse Warren” and end up having to give our dog shots – but in life you do what you have to do…after all it’s the the best I can do for him.
-On that note, I’m out of here. Time for me to shower after Steve gets out of the bathroom in a few minutes and maybe even shave my beard off for the day. I’m not sure about that one yet – but it is beginning to itch just a bit. Steve, my partner – will be heading out the door in about 45 minutes for work – for another day.
I have to drive to the grocery store a bit later and get just a few items I forgot to get on Saturday – and then come back home. We hope your Monday is a good one – keep smiling – enjoy life – it really is good!
-Until next time…
