Breakfast Is Served
-Good morning … Tuesday, two days before “turkey day” …
-Out in our back yard this morning it is clear and 14 very chilly degrees outside. Frost everywhere this morning.
-Today’s weather forecast for our part of the nation is:
Partly cloudy. Highs 28 to 33. Northwest wind around 5 mph becoming southwest in the late morning.
-Well I’m running a bit late this morning … I had to try and feed the dog his “pill” and the trick was making him eat the goofy “healthy, dietary” dog food.
It really doesn’t smell to bad … but I guess our dog just has had enough of it … or just isn’t to crazy about the flavor and taste.
Besides that, now that I’m sitting here … what in the heck am I going to write about. I feel empty this morning of ideas … but that is not the first time in the last few years since I’ve been writing this blog that I’ve felt that way.
I”m not sure if the “cup” is half full or half empty.
-Do you ever have one of those feelings … your not sure what it is … but you feel uncomfortable about it. You gut is just telling you … it’s not right or something is going to go wrong today or this week … or you have a premonition or feeling about something.
That’s sort of the way I woke up this morning – my mind was racing a 100% but I don’t honest recall what the heck it was that I was dreaming about or thinking about in my sleep.
It’s like … my eyes opened and the switch to my mental television screen went blank.
Well it’s not the first time that has happened to me or to any guy for that matter. Oh well, life goes on – I’m sure whatever it was will come to me a bit later.
-Turkey day a.k.a. Thanksgiving Day is just two days away – and today I’ve got to get the cooler out and fill it with water and put our my turkey in there to begin to thaw out.
It is an old idea I got from my mom to put the turkey in cold water a night or two before Thanksgiving to help it thaw out properly. I used to put it in the refrigerator … but our refrigerator is so cold – that the darn thing never really thawed out by Thanksgiving morning.
So this is the method I’ll use … and hopefully it will be in good shape and ready to bake on Thursday morning when I get it ready to cook.
-I was just reading the Duluth News Tribune here as I am writing … only to see that the unemployment rate in Duluth reached 5.8 percent last month, the highest October rate in more than a decade.
The last time the unemployment rate in northeastern Minnesota got really high was back in 1986 … when the then “Reserve Mining Company” in Silver Bay, Minnesota closed down. Silver Bay is about 60 plus miles north east of Duluth, on the shore of Lake Superior.
The number 5.8 percent, released Monday by the state Department of Employment and Economic Development, is a significant increase over last year. Unemployment in Duluth in October 2007 stood at 4.5 percent.
-This week being Thanksgiving week, I thought each day I’d list a few things to be thankful for…during this Thanksgiving Season 2008:
Good conversation
Good eyesight
Good friends
Good health
Good movies
Good teachers
Good tires
The love of my partner
Good grandparent (I only had one living grand parent – she was awesome)
High-speed Internet access
Holding hands with Steve
Homemade ice cream
Rainbows
Sunsets
I’m sure I’ll think of some more things by tomorrow morning … how about you?
There are just so darn many things that each of us can be thankful for … why not take a moment and make a small list of the things that you are thankful on this Thanksgiving week.
You’ll be surprised at how much you have to be thankful for.
-I’ve been watching the gay movement not only in the United States, but around the world as I read the news every day.
We seem to be going backward on our civil rights and many other fronts.
What do you think is happening?
Think about this…
- not a lot of media coverage about gay issues of late
- some television programs on recently have made fun of gays
I kind of wonder what is happening … our cultural friends the african americans have been through it all … and now for some reason, I’m not sure where the gay movement in our country is at? I hope we are not losing ground … I hope President Elect Obama will bring our cause to the forefront … I don’t want us to slip backwards and become something of a lost story on page six of every newspaper in the nation.
But then, I don’t want to see us as rioting fools on the front page either.
Hmmmmm! It’s okay for you and me and all of us to be gay and it should be okay for media and “straight society” to acknowledge that now and forever.
-Ah doesn’t this just say it all … breakfast is served!
Borrowed from Greg. You can see the rest of those photos on his blog by click this link.
-Things we’ve read…
- Murder is the only crime that does not increase during the full moon. Theft, disorderly conduct, larceny, armed robbery, assault and battery, and rape all statistically increase dramatically during the full moon.
- The banana tree cannot reproduce itself. It can be propagated only by the hand of man.
- Some species of fish have voices!
- 23% of all photocopier faults worldwide are caused by people sitting on them and photocopying their butts.
- Some asteroids have other asteroids orbiting them.
-Today Steve heads back to work…it’s going to be a routine day for him and for me here at home.
We hope your Tuesday is a good day … We will see you back here again tomorrow morning.
Until next time…
