123108lastday

-Good morning on this the last day of 2008 … December 31st.

Wow, where in the heck did that year go? It seems like we were just welcoming the new year of 2008 into our lives and now we are bidding it farewell.

-Out in our back yard this morning, we have -11 degrees below zero, with clear skies.

Color weather radar this morning shows basically clean conditions all across the State of Minnesota.

-Our weather forecast for this New Year’s Eve day is:

Today

Increasing clouds. Highs 4 to 9. West winds 10 to 15 mph. Wind chill readings 25 below to 35 below zero early in the morning.

Tonight

Partly cloudy in the evening…then mostly cloudy with a 60 percent chance of light snow after midnight. Snow accumulation around 1 inch. Near steady temperature around 2. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph becoming south 10 to 15 mph after midnight.

It’s going to be bitter cold today with wind chill readings of -35 below zero this morning, then changing to snow later on.  Geesh, how lucky can one be?!? :-)

-As the old saying goes, “Another one bites the dust…”  Nicky over at Ajax In The City – has decided to leave blogging and today he is posting for the last time.

Just a note to let you know that my last journal post is up . I’d say I was freeing up my mind to write the great American novel, but I finished the draft of that novel in September.

Come January, I start studying for the TEF (that’s the exam they use to prove language proficiency in Canada). No, I’m not moving. But my French should be better than it is, right now, it’s for crap.

I hope you have an awesome 2009.

Love and such…

Nicky

Steve and I want to wish you the very best “Nicky” with your studies and with your life in 2009. Being at the top of our blogroll – you were one of my favorite morning reads – and I know that not only will we miss you – but so will many of your readers across the world.d

Our best wishes to you.

-Well here we are, on the final day of the year.  I’m still not feeling 100% – as I’ve had a really bad cold, while Steve my partner is starting to feel a lot better and seems to be getting over his cold.

Steve goes back to work this morning – but the good thing is that he is off tomorrow…New Years Day.

-So are you going to make any New Year’s resolutions? Things you want to do, things you don’t want to do and all that kind of thing.

We’ve made basically one New Years Resolution, and that is to:

Diet

We both figured we need to lose a few extra pounds, and the best way to do that is (1) count points using the Weight Watchers System and (2) do portion control.

So, starting next Sunday – the 4th of January and the beginning of the first full week of the new year – we will start our diet.

-2008 was a pretty good year for us all in all. Most things were good, a few things were bad – but all in all we had a pretty good year.

We did some fun things, we visited some exciting places, heard some good music, and had a number of good meals here and there.

The worst event of this past year, happened on Thanksgiving Day – November 27th, 2008 when I lost my dog Buddy.

buddy1

Hardly a day goes by, when I don’t look for “Buddy” in the kitchen when I get up at 5:00 a.m. or when I come back home – after having been downtown or to the grocery store or where ever it may have been.

I miss you “Mr. Buds” …

-I think Steve and I have the simpliest lists of New Year’s resolutions around:

  1. Faithfully love each other
  2. Be thankful for God’s love and faithfulness to us, and for the love of our families
  3. Live only one day at a time, not looking back ward or looking ahead – but live for the day
  4. Eat all meals sensibly, avoiding fat and unhealthy food
  5. Exercise every day when possible, by walking or doing something for at least 30 minutes
  6. Enjoy what life has given to us, by taking care of the things we’ve been entrusted with
  7. Keep out of debt, and if we don’t have the money to buy something, then don’t buy it
  8. Learn something new about the world we live in
  9. Help others, as we would like to be helped
  10. Keep our chins up, don’t look backward, look only foward and smile -)

-Have a very Happy 2009 New Year everyone — all the best to all of you from both of us. We will see you in 2009!

Oh excuse us…but it’s time for that New Years Eve kiss….and….some…

But most of all on this day, we thank you the readers who have been so faithful to read us, post comments or send us emails.  We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for following us each day on our daily journey called life!

Thanks!

God bless each of you.

-We will see you next year! ;-)

Happy New Year Everyone!!!

Businesses Close Down

bside

European Bakery in Duluth closed down for good.

and…now tonight…the….

Bayside Market on Park Point closes today at 6:00 p.m.

Is America going to start closing down today and in January, 2009?

I wonder…in this economy.

This is really sad..as I think about what is happening to our economy and jobs and people’s lives …. wow, what is there to be “happy” about for a new year?
I hope President – Elect Obama is the key to our needs and the world can change back to what it was…some how, in my small mind – I think that some one or some body is behind this – and they are controlling millions upon millions of us – through the “almighty dollar/euro/yen/franc – or whatever currency it is….
I can’t for the life of me, believe that we can’t see this and somehow prevent it…It just does not make any logical sense to me … it really doesn’t.

-Until next time…

No Endorsements For Mitcham

-Four months after winning a gold medal in platform diving, Australian Matthew Mitcham still has not secured any sponsorships, a development that perplexes him.

Mitcham says he does not regret coming out before the Games, but does wonder if that has made any companies cautious.

Yeah, I haven’t got anything yet. I’m working on stuff, and looking for stuff but, no, I haven’t got anything yet. It has surprised and disappointed me, I guess, because I have seen how successful some other athletes are after winning Olympic medals. I hope it will all come.

-Let’s talk him up on the blogs guys … he need our support!

-Until next time…

Facebooks’ Hate Free Zone

Facebook has kicked out two anti-gay groups on the basis that they didn’t live up to the user agreement that all those who set up a page on Facebook must agree to.  It would appear that the groups in questions had anti-gay, hate related messages on their post.

According to a Facebook spokesperson:

“Facebook has looked into these groups and has confirmed that they violate Facebook’s Terms of Use. As such, both groups have been removed.”

Apparently, Facebook is also looking into removing the pages of eight similar groups.
