Ever Get Bored?
-Friday … good morning everyone, and welcome to our blog.
We’ve made it to the end of another week … and I always have loved Fridays’ and this one is no exception – because I’ll be able to spend the day with my partner.
-Out in the back yard this morning we’ve got hazy conditions with 59 degrees. Today’s northland weather forecast is calling for: Increasing clouds in the afternoon. Patchy fog early in the morning. Isolated sprinkles in the afternoon. Highs 75 to 80. West winds 10 to 15 mph.
Color weather radar at this moment shows a small area of rain just west of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota but the rest of the state appears to be in good condition this morning.
-Do you ever get bored. I do. Yesterday I drove into the city to have lunch with Steve…which was really fun … because I just don’t see him as much with his softball games and second job … he’s gone a few nights every week – and I get bored. I know, I told him this and I’ve probably written about it a number of time – but hey – it’s real and I’m a human being and I can’t deny how I feel at times.
I mean, I’m 62 …you wouldn’t think I’d get bored – but I do. It’s the darndest thing … but sitting at home is not that much fun. I was always a “people person” in that throughout my working career I dealt with “people” … so now comes retirement, and hey there are not as many people around me … so the days are at times boring. So I thought to myself last evening as I was home alone … and he was working from 5:00 p.m. to midnight … what can I do to keep myself active and not so darn bored.
Ideas that came to my mind and that I could do … were:
- Clean my closet that is a mess
- Write a chapter in a book (that I have yet to start)
- Read the rest of one of those books Steve bought me a few Christmases ago
- Go for a walk
- Spend sometime watching a good movie on t.v.
- Vacuum under the bed
- Touch up the paint in the living room or kitchen or certainly the bathroom
- Update our blog site information
- Clean out the basement – well that’s a big job
- or start one of the THOUSAND projects you have in your head – like ah…….
But then, I didn’t want to do any of those things. I wanted to do something really FUN – not work my butt off – after all I’ve done that for 43 years. Could I tell you what the fun thing was, NO! There is nothing in particular. So instead I decided to watch reruns of “Golden Girls” last evening on the bed and do nothing. But that made me laugh – so it was good.
Being bored is a state of mind you have control of. When you feel bored you can make the choice to lay there or you can motivate yourself to take action on some of the tasks you have on a To Do List - as an example. (Oh I hate those kinds of lists)
Sure it is not exactly what I have in mind, but it will at least make me productive.
I bet even just becoming productive will make me feel better and then maybe I will come up with a great way to celebrate my success for completing the task.
It could even be FUN!
At least, I hope so!
The one good series of tasks that I’ve had of late . . . is dieting and getting out doing to cardio walking every single day. The positive thing about that is … I’m losing weight. 19 pounds lost as of yesterday, now that takes away some boredom.
Good luck with your list and hopefully you won’t get bored ~ I’m going to try and improve on that boredom in the next few days and weeks ~ I just have to find alternative things to “being bored”!

Your ideas that came to mind do not show on the page. It would be interesting to see what you came up with.
I listed them all in the blog…and I can see them (I’m using a Firebox browser) and they do appear.
But nonetheless here they are again:

I’m fortunate in that regard. I retired 3 years ago and haven’t been bored once. I love it! All of my hobbies became “my job”. Sure, there are times when I’m lazy but I don’t count that as being bored. I found this list that may help you:

I basically get bored … because I miss my partner, and he works about 30 miles from our home … so it’s not easy or cheap to just run into the city every day for lunch or softball … so I miss him…
Beating boredom is highly individual, but you have named at least one of your Elements of Interest: being with people, so adding people to whatever you do is going to make it less boring. Joining a hiking group would make walking/hiking less boring, for example–I notice you turned down the walk for more fun. For more, take a look at my ThePowerOfBoredom.com. And congrats on losing the weight; it’s not easy.
