It Was A Great Day
-Steve and I had a great Saturday with his family in his home town, in central Minnesota.
We drove over after he got done with his 2nd job on Friday … arriving at his parents home about 10:00 p.m. and spending a good night in bed. It was actually one of the longest nights I’ve slept in many many years.
The quietness of the rural farm life – and the comfortable old bed – just made for a perfect match and the two of us slept in until almost 10:00 a.m. yesterday morning.
We were up and showered, having a small bite of breakfast then off to get his two nephews for an afternoon at the movies. The boys got see the movie Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, which they both really enjoyed.
Actually Steve and I really enjoyed the movie … you just had to listen carefully to the adult overtones in the movie – but certainly cute for young kids to see.
Movie over – we headed up the street to a Subway for a small but quick lunch – around 3:30 p.m. and then it was off to see Steve’s grandmother – who was celebrating her 90th birthday.
Steve’s grand mother is a great lady and so reminds me of my own grand mother of many years ago.
One thing for certain … if the good Lord should give me 90 years of life – I hope I am half as sharp at Steve’s grand mother. Her mind and actions are as good as mine today and she’s 27 years older than me.
We left Steve’s parents home around 7:30 p.m. and headed back to our home on the north shore – arriving around 11:00 p.m. or so.
It was a fast trip, but really it was a great trip … for Steve to be able to spend time with him nephews, mom, dad and sisters plus his grand mother – all packed in about 24 hours of time.
Sometimes the best times in life are spur of the moment events.
It was a great day for sure.
-Today is my “63rd” birthday … we are going into the big city this afternoon with some relatives to celebrate and have an mid-afternoon lunch / dinner – which will be fun.
As the saying goes .. “If I’d of know I was going to live this long, I’d of taken better care of myself”.
One thing said … I out lived both my mom and my dad … and coming home last night … in my own thinking, I wondered where had 62 years of my life gone – so very very fast.
It seems like I was just a kid on 6th Avenue … growing up with my friends, sliding on the hills, biking on the street and going to school. Then one day I woke up and wow, I was completing 62 years of life and starting on my 63rd.
God has been good to me, I’ve had pretty good relatives and a wonderful truly loving and caring partner in life for these past 10 plus years – I now know … it’s been a good life with many years yet to live and enjoy all that there is before me.
